Most problems that hurt, bleed, swell or involve a broken or lost tooth should be seen today. Use this table as a guide, and when in doubt, call us. We would rather tell you it can wait than have you wait when it can’t.

- Pain relief and diagnosis: an exam and digital X-rays to find the cause, with local anesthetic to stop the pain.
- Treating infections and abscesses: draining the infection, prescribing antibiotics when needed, and planning the root canal or extraction that resolves it.
- Repairing broken or chipped teeth: bonding, a filling, or a temporary crown to protect the tooth until a permanent restoration is made.

- Rinse gently with warm water. Don’t use hot water or hydrogen peroxide.
- Put a cold compress on the outside of your cheek for swelling, 15 minutes on and 15 off.
- Keep a knocked-out tooth moist in milk or saliva. Don’t scrub it or wrap it in tissue.
- Take over-the-counter pain relief as directed. Don’t put aspirin directly on the gum; it burns the tissue.
- Save any broken pieces and bring them with you.
- Don’t chew on the injured side, and skip very hot, cold or sugary food and drinks.
